It was college when I first met her. Her skin was like a dark rich cream, and her hair flowed of a deep coffee brown. As her eyes connected with mine I felt a sense of complexity. I quickly looked away but her aroma of dark chocolate beckoned my eyes to revert back to her. I finally mustered up the courage to introduce myself.
“Hi, I’m Daniel,” I said as I extended my hand.
She sat there quietly strong with confidence. I was intimidated. She smiled. That was all I needed to fall deeper under her spell. The rest was history. We danced through night while the blondes looked upon with jealousy. I held the brunette close to me while we swayed to the rhythmic bass.
Since that night, I’ve had a thing for Brunettes. It’s been years from when I first met her. Her name still embraces me dearly…Guinness.
I enjoy a good beer every so often. But after having my first Guinness I was hooked to that dark creamy visual and the dark chocolate coffee taste. You really can’t go wrong with chocolate and coffee. But other than being great tasting, Guinness actually has some health benefits and is known to be much healthier than the other usual beers. In an article written by Kevin Hunt, he writes:
Guinness, in fact, is lower in alcohol, calories and carbohydrates than Samuel Adams, Budweiser, Heineken and almost every other major-brand beer not classified as light or low-carb. It has fewer calories and carbohydrates than low-fat milk and orange juice, too…
Red wine, in particular, has been shown to help prevent heart attacks. Now maybe it’s beer’s turn. A University of Wisconsin study last fall found that moderate consumption of Guinness worked like aspirin to prevent clots that increase the risk of heart attacks. In the study, Guinness proved twice as effective as Heineken at preventing blood clots. Guinness is loaded with flavonoids, antioxidants that give the dark color to many fruits and vegetables.
These antioxidants are better than vitamins C and E, the study found, at keeping bad LDL cholesterol from clogging arteries. Blocked arteries also contributes to erectile dysfunction, as does overindulgence in alcohol.
So next time you find yourself sitting at the bar, instead of giving your attention to the blondes. show some love to the brunettes. Although you may have to wait a little longer for a Draught Guinness. According to Diageo, a global alcoholic beverages company, to pour a “perfect pint” the Guinness calls for a “double pour” which will last 119.53 seconds according to the company. But like the saying goes, “Good things comes to those who wait”.
