Living Healthy

Everyone wants to accomplish goals, achieve greatness, and become successful.  But if health isn’t important to you, then you won’t be enjoying those things very long.

I know, you’re thinking it’s easy for me to say this because I work in the strength and fitness industry.  I also spend more time in the training facility and around athletes than I do in my own home.  I may have a slight advantage but I still make it a MUST for me.

‘Build a Ku Body’ all started with the idea that you can apply the lessons you learn through strength and fitness to every aspect of life; physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I’ve worked with many people who had the mindset of – I should work out, I should eat better, I should lose weight, or I should start being consistent with my strength program.  Anthony Robins mentioned that the more you use should sooner or later you end up shoulding all over yourself.

So, my first goal with them was to change their mindset.  Your health isn’t something you should take care of. Your health is a must.

I believe when you use shoulds, it brings an uncertainty to the action.  When you think “I should exercise,” subconsciously it comes off like, “I know it’ll be a good idea if I did exercises, but I don’t know.  Maybe tomorrow.”

That is why it is important to really make a decision and use musts. It even sounds better and more definite.  This concept came from the guys over at The Minimalists.

I must exercise.

I must eat healthier.

I must lose weight.

I must stop eating junk food.

Saying those things out loud makes you feel like you are ready to take action and are in control. Seriously try to actually say it out loud, and feel the difference in makes compare to should.  The biggest step is to take the leap and start thinking about what it is you want.  And, it starts today.

Today is the day where you take a stand and decide that you must change things.  Especially your health.  Sometimes being honest with yourself and making that decision is the hardest thing to do.  You know what needs to be done, but it’s the point of action that doesn’t come together and you get discouraged.  When fear approaches it means you are doing something that matters.

Now when your habits do not go along with your desire to live healthier, you will never improve your health.  It’s definitely a life style change.  Bad habits are all learned which means they can be un-learned by slowly incorporating healthier habits.  Here are a few healthier habits you must implement:

1.  Get on a consistent sleeping schedule.Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time.

2.  Get rid of all the junk food in your cupboards.  If it’s not around you won’t feel tempted to eat them.

3.  Participate in daily physical activity; weight training, interval training, body weight exercises, jogging, a leisure walk.  Make sure to do something.

4.  Eat more vegetables.

5.  Carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go.

6.  Fill your mind with positive and inspirational thoughts.  Your perception is your reality.

These seem like small steps, but they are definitely important ones to take.

Today marks the day when you take control of your health and take action.  There are many resources out there to guide you.  I created this blog to help people who want to live a meaningful and fulfilling life and sharing my experiences.  And I believe that building a Ku Body physically should be a priority because when you feel good about your health it shows in everything you do.

Mahalo. Aloha. A hui hou.
