I set a lot of goals.  Some that are pretty lofty but I take time to write them down.  I actually go back and forth behind the importance of setting goals to where or not it’s necessary.  I’ve come to terms with letting go of a few goals which made me learn more about myself.

Have you ever started a project that you were super gung-ho about in the beginning but it’s still sitting on the side waiting to be completed?

Of course you have.

I got a couple of projects that I started and haven’t come around to finish them.  We hear many times that if you have a projects then you should see it through no matter what.  But yet, there are some of those projects that just fade away into the background.

After many unfinished and some big finished projects, I’ve learned the main things you need to keep motivated to finish a project.

1.  The WHY behind the Project. There has to be a strong Why behind what you are doing.  You may feel it’ll help a lot of people, make a difference in the community, change your life in a meaningful way, or contribute to something in a certain way.  Whenever I start to lose focus on a project, I always check back in on my Why.  If my Why doesn’t get me back on track, then it wasn’t strong enough.

2. Your commitment. Once you have your strong WHY, it is up to you to commit yourself to it.  Anthony Robbins said, “The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.” We tend to not use our imagination enough.  I strongly believe you are capable of making a big impact on your own lift, family, and community.  But it’s up to you to use your imagination to show your commitment.

These are the two things that keep you motivated.  I’m often asked how I stay motivated or keep my athletes/clients motivated.  I constantly come back to these two reasons: Your WHY, and Commitment.

You must be honest with yourself and find the WHY, and ask whether or not you will fully commit yourself.

Now what happens when you lose motivation?

Life changes and motivation can drift off.  When it does happen, it’s important to look back at these two reasons to see if they still hold.  If it doesn’t, there is no need to stress.  Put it to the side because like the ocean, motivation can come and go like waves.

What sort of projects to you have going on right now? I look forward to hearing about them in the comments below.
