People thought Bruce Lee was crazy. Yea, crazy good!

For some odd reason while I took Kona for a walk, this quote, “I don’t know karate, but I know crazy” came into my head.

Sometimes my mind goes through a series of random thoughts which then lead to a random idea.  I see it as inspiration. Take the above quote for instance.  It popped in my head after I saw my neighbors Christmas lights still up, which made me think she was a little crazy, then I traveled back into time to this past Christmas in Oregon, and then thought about me getting a GoPro from Mari, and then it came to me.

I remembered my Uncle Dwight getting a t-shirt as a gift that said, “I don’t know Karate, but I know crazy.”

I Know Crazy

I’ve been told that I’m crazy many times.  Usually it comes during my workouts or when I get really serious with my nutrition and plan/measure every single meal.

Ever since I started writing again, I can’t go a day without it.  I have to write, I have to put my thoughts out there.

A colleague of mine asked, “Do you right every day?”

I replied, “Yup.”

“Every day?”

“Every day.”

“You’re crazy.”

Sometimes we all need a little crazy in our lives.  I believe if you want to achieve something you have to be a bit crazy.  There may be a goal where you have no idea where to start, but you know it is something you want to accomplish.

When I began preparing for my bodybuilding competition, I had no idea what I was doing.  I knew I had to workout, eat strict and healthy, shed as much body fat as possible, and that’s it.  I quickly learned there is so much more to it.  This is when I went crazy.

I researched different competitors, read books and articles, watched videos, joined a bodybuilding forum, asked questions, and logged every little thing from my meals to my workouts.  Again, people looked at me and said, “You’re crazy.”

C.R.A.Z.Y Principles

Like I mentioned earlier, my mind often wanders off into distant places and returns with far fetched ideas.  I came up with the C.R.A.Z.Y Principles.  It will show you what it takes and the mindset needed to achieve your goals in any area of life.

I see C.R.A.Z.Y as Concentrated Focus.

C – Courageous: It takes a lot of courage to be honest with yourself and make that decision of accomplishing a goal(s).  It’s courageous to tell others what it is you want to achieve.  You put yourself along with your dreams and aspirations out there for others to see.  Making that courageous  decision to accomplish a goal  is the first step and the most important one.  It’s what gets you started.

R – Resilient: This is an important component when it comes to achieving goals.  You will come across obstacles and will have to overcome many fears that have been rooted in your mind for a very long time.  When things get toughthe average person takes a step back and tells themselves, “This is too hard, it’s not that important.” If you are reading this now, you are NOT average. Resilience separates the successful from the unsuccessful.

A – Accountable: It is important to hold yourself accountable for your actions, and thoughts.  There is no room for excuses.  Yes, you can have people who support you check in and make sure you are sticking to your plan, but the person that matters most is YOU.  If you give up, it’s no one’s fault but yours.

Z – Zealous: You have to feel passionate about your goal.  I know ‘passionate’ is one of those buzz words.  But you really need it.  Your goal should make you feel enthused and energized.  The sheer thought of you accomplishing it should make your heart thump with excitement.  Write your goals down and read over them frequently.  When you read your goals, feel the emotion you will have when you accomplished each one. Take note of how you feel.

Y – ‘Yea Buddy’: In the words of Ronnie Coleman, 8-Time Mr. Olympia, “Yea Buddy!”.  I didn’t choose this because I didn’t know what a word that started with a ‘Y’ would work.  This is the first thing that came to me.  The ‘Yea Buddy’ mentality is a certain attitude.  There are going to be times when you feel discouraged.  It’s your attitude that keeps you going forward.  Stay positive, visualize the ultimate goal and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wake up each day and say, ‘Yea Buddy’.  It’ll put a smile o your face.

You may not know exactly what to do, but you know exactly what you want.  This is when the C.R.A.Z.Y Principles come in.  So get C.R.A.Z.Y and attack every goal with that mindset.  Find a goal that you know you want but is out of your comfort zone.

Others may look at you and say, “You’re crazy.”  But just remember, the ones who are seen as crazy for wanting to make a difference in their lives are the ones that do.

Mahalo. Aloha. A hui hou.
